Carrier Baling Wire for High-Volume Horizontal Baler Operations

Stem wire, also known as stump wire, carrier baling wire or stand wire, is used in the recycling process to bundle cardboard, paper, plastic and more. Our stump wires are extremely durable, able to handle great amounts of pressure and can be used for baler brands including but not limited to American Baler, International Baler, Sierra and Balemaster.

Complete Packaging Products offers black annealed stump wire in 10, 11, and 12 gauge, sold by the full skid at 1,600 lbs. to 2,000 lbs. and each stump is inspected for quality prior to leaving our facility. Stump dimensions will vary based upon finish and diameter of wire requested. Please call for specific dimensions. The standard stump dimensions would be 36" x 48" with an inner diameter of 14".

Choosing the Right Gauge

Gauge Recommended Application Typical Load Type
10 Gauge Heavy-duty, high-compression Dense OCC, scrap cardboard, industrial plastic bales, mixed heavy recyclables
11 Gauge General-purpose baling Cardboard, paper, mixed recyclables, moderate-density plastic bales
12 Gauge Light to medium-duty baling Paper, soft fiber, low-density materials

Key Benefits:

  • Available in 10, 11, and 12 gauge to match baler output and material density
  • Supplied in full skid quantities (approximately 1,600–2,000 lbs.) for high-volume operations
  • Black annealed finish provides flexibility for smooth, continuous feeding

Stump wire, also referred to as stem wire or carrier baling wire, is designed for use in horizontal baler systems that require continuous wire feed during high-volume operations. Unlike box wire or pre-cut bale ties, stump wire is supplied as a large-format spool that feeds automatically through the baler’s tying mechanism. This makes it a standard solution for recycling facilities, material recovery operations, and industrial environments where efficiency and throughput are critical.

The black annealed finish provides the flexibility needed for smooth feeding and consistent performance during repeated compression cycles. This reduces the risk of wire breakage and helps maintain reliable bale containment during handling and transport. Stump wire is commonly used to secure materials such as cardboard, paper, plastics, and other recyclables processed in horizontal balers.

Selecting the correct gauge is essential for optimal performance. Heavier gauges such as 10 gauge are used for dense, high-compression bales, while lighter gauges like 12 gauge are better suited for lower-density materials where cost per tie is a consideration. Choosing the right wire helps improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime in demanding baling environments.

For other baling and load containment needs, businesses may also consider black annealed box wire for smaller-format balers, bale ties for pre-cut applications, or steel strapping for palletized load securing.
